Opal Tower Structural Failure Drags On

The Opal Tower structural failure identified on Christmas Eve when residents reported cracking sounds looks set to drag into the new year. It is far too early to allocate any blame or responsibility, to do so would be irresponsible – any and/or all of the developer, engineers, constructors, inspectors, precast makers will be under the spotlight in the coming weeks and months.

What is certain is that certifications, inspections and oversight will be a big topic in 2019 with a decade of projects facing retrospective review and scrutiny. Irrespective of the ultimate findings of any inquiry is that reputations and trust have been irreversibly damaged.
